Alprazolam is commonly prescribed for the management of the anxiety and insomnia. Alprazolam is often preferable to other benzodiazepines, such as chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, and prazepam, because alprazolam has a relatively shorter half-life and does not have active metabolites that can lead to accumulation, particularly in the elderly. Alprazolam was approved by the FDA in 1981 and became available as a generic in 1993. |
